Cville Goodies

Another new post!  Hooray!  I’m trying to get back in the swing of posting, so I’m churning out a bunch right in a row.  This quickie is about two great restaurants in Charlottesville that I want to draw some attention to.  First is a brand new place I visited today for lunch, called the Citizen Burger Bar.  They just opened up on the downtown mall, and they serve mostly burgers and sides, with a few aptly called “non-burger” options, such as a lobster BLT which I cannot wait to try.  I had their signature Citizen Burger today, which comes with gruyere, grilled onion, rosemary aioli, lettuce, and tomato on a brioche bun stamped with their logo.  It arrived gooey and delicious, with a battered and fried pickle.  And SlowFoodieBear followers know how much I love I love my mayonnaise, and I must say that their aioli was divine.  It gets my vote as one of the best burgers in Charlottesville.  I can’t wait to go back.

The next great place to get food “goodies” in Charlottesville is Carpe Donut.  It’s an adorable, family-run, organic donut shop right near Great Harvest.  Their donuts are the moist, cakey ones rolled in cinnamon sugar, not anything like those glazed, sticky, sugary things you can buy in the grocery store.  At their little shop, they also sell a few awesome side items like Barefoot Bucha kombucha (a bubbly, fermented tea), hot cider, coffee, and Italian hot chocolate.  One of my new discoveries there though was the donut ice cream sandwich.  Carpe Donut takes one of their cinnamon-y, organic donuts made with apple cider, cuts it in half, fills it with ice cream, and then freezes the whole thing!  Sounds like the perfect summer treat.

Can we get a Citizen Burger next week? I’m thinking we may have to SHARE a Carpe Donut ice cream sandwich, afterward. What do you think?
